What is Integrative Touch™?
ITK’s founder has developed a unique therapy called Integrative Touch™ that is changing the way children and families are being treated in hospitals and outpatient clinics. We are gratified that our two largest programs—Healing Retreats and Hospital Heroes—are using this therapy and paving the way to help thousands of kids and families, both in Tucson and nationally. The overwhelming response to both the Healing Retreats and Hospital Heroes programs from kids, families, hospital staff, and volunteers has inspired ITK to lay the groundwork for these programs to be replicated. We are working with the University of Arizona’s Eller School of Management to develop easily replicable program models. ITK’s program growth directly supports our mission to change how kids and families experience health and healing, so they can heal and thrive together even in difficult times.
Integrative health and medicine combines mainstream medical therapies and complementary health approaches to improve health outcomes and quality of life. The use of integrative approaches for health and wellness has grown within care settings and researchers are exploring the benefits of integrative health in a variety of situations including pain management, relief of symptoms in cancer patients, and programs to promote healthy behaviors.
Integrative Touch for Kids' approach to integrative health and medicine takes the current practice to the next level by creating wellness systems designed to include the Whole Child, Whole Family and Whole Community. Our treatment and education models include care and support for every member of the family and engage the entire community. Junior volunteers learn to caregive and develop friendships with children of all abilities. Adults provide healing services, care and support. Every ITK family member is treated equally because ITK recognizes that when a child has special needs, a family has special needs and a community can help.
